At 22 degrees north, Shanwei Jinting Bay sits along a latitude shared by some of the world’s most romantic coastlines. Known as the “Shangri-La of the Sea”, it offers seven kilometres of pristine beach, soft white sand, open skies and a rare sense of quiet escape.
Set within this coastal landscape, Poly DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel, Shanwei embraces panoramic sea views, tropical gardens and floor-to-ceiling windows that soften the boundary between indoors and out.
Blending Southeast Asian ease with Minnan character, the hotel uses natural textures to create a relaxed resort atmosphere. Walls are finished with cardamia flexible stone in Chiba Maple and Tour Rough Strip Stone, while ceilings feature W Rattan Weave for a warm, layered expression.
The result is a calm, textural interior that feels closely connected to the surrounding coast — refined, comfortable and quietly immersive.
In island and coastal hotel design, timber and rattan often define the mood. Yet humidity, salt mist and strong sunlight can make traditional materials difficult to maintain. Following cardamia’s strong performance at Poly Rosewood Sanya, where the material retained 95% of its original condition after five years, the design team selected cardamia flexible stone for the walls and ceilings of this project.
With a water absorption rate of 8–10%, cardamia flexible stone helps keep surfaces dry in humid, salt-rich environments, reducing the risk of corrosion and mould. It is equally suited to bathrooms, pools, spas and other wet areas.
Tested for up to 3,500 hours of accelerated ageing, equivalent to long-term outdoor exposure, cardamia flexible stone resists peeling and cracking even under sustained sunlight.
Through rich three-dimensional texture and precise surface printing, cardamia recreates the character of stone, timber and rattan while allowing customised colour and pattern design for different spaces.
Lightweight, durable and expressive, cardamia flexible stone brings natural visual warmth to demanding coastal environments. It supports the designer’s intention while improving practicality, longevity and ease of maintenance — allowing resort spaces to remain beautiful, calm and resilient over time.
Morning gulls, starlit skies and the rhythm of the tide — a coastal setting where nature becomes part of the design experience.
